As an Axonics® Center of Excellence, Nashville Urology remains focused on advancing innovative neuromodulation therapies and enhancing quality of life for patients with debilitating bladder and bowel symptoms.

Clinically Proven. Patient Approved.

Axonics® Therapy is supported by clinical evidence demonstrating its effectiveness in restoring bladder and bowel control and delivering meaningful improvements in quality of life.

In a clinical study of patients with urinary urgency incontinence after six months of therapy:

  • 93% of patients reported satisfaction with their therapy*

  • 90% of patients experienced a ≥50% reduction in UUI symptoms*

  • Fewer than 2% of patients reported discomfort at the implant site

*Results reflect outcomes observed in the clinical study population.

What is AXONICS® Therapy?

Axonics® Therapy provides an effective treatment for overactive bladder (including urinary urgency incontinence), urinary retention, and bowel (fecal) incontinence. Clinically proven, it helps patients regain control over their bladder and bowel, improving daily life and overall quality of life.

Axonics® Therapy offers a long-term solution that:

  • Safely delivers therapy through a miniaturized implant

  • Is designed to provide lasting benefits for at least 15 years

  • Is MRI-compatible, allowing for full-body MRI scans

  • Is clinically proven to relieve symptoms*

Who Is a Good Candidate for Axonics™ Therapy?

Determining if Axonics™ Therapy is right for you is a decision made together with your healthcare provider. Axonics™ Therapy is approved for patients experiencing:

  • Overactive bladder (OAB): A strong, urgent need to urinate, which may cause frequent urination or leakage.

  • Urinary urgency frequency: Needing to urinate 8 or more times per day.

  • Urinary urgency incontinence (UUI): Difficulty holding urine or sudden urges that make it hard to reach the restroom in time.

  • Fecal (bowel) incontinence: Sudden urges to pass stool or accidental leakage before reaching the restroom.

  • Nonobstructive urinary retention (UR): Difficulty emptying the bladder, leading to frequent urination or trouble urinating.

Axonics™ Therapy is generally considered for patients who have not found relief from conservative treatments, such as lifestyle changes, physical therapy, or medications.

Axonics™ Therapy is NOT appropriate for:

  • Stress incontinence

  • Urinary symptoms caused by mechanical obstructions (e.g., benign prostatic hyperplasia, cancer, urethral strictures)

  • Patients who have not had a successful response to an external trial

  • Individuals with limited cognitive function, which could make therapy management difficult

  • Pregnant women, unborn babies, and during delivery

  • Pediatric patients (under 18 for fecal incontinence; under 16 for OAB or urinary retention)

  • Patients with urinary or bowel symptoms caused by neurological diseases, such as multiple sclerosis or diabetes the urgent need to urinate or trouble holding urine before making it to the restroom

The AXONICS® Therapy Process

Axonics® Therapy delivers gentle stimulation to the nerves that control the bladder and bowel, helping restore normal function and improve symptoms.

The Evaluation Step: To determine if Axonics® Therapy is right for you, you will first try a short-term therapy using a temporary system. This evaluation period allows you to experience potential symptom relief before committing to long-term treatment.

Long-Term Therapy: If you and your doctor decide Axonics® Therapy is appropriate, a minimally invasive outpatient procedure is performed to place the miniaturized Axonics® implant just beneath the skin in the upper buttock.
